Confinement

The traditional confinement means : no shower, no fan no air-con, no go out for 30days. I will go nuts if I follow the rules. hahaha. I already broke the rule during day 3 in hospital. I washed my super oily hair with my sister's and hair dryer help. I had a confinement nanny to help me this time. And she is very good, not those traditional aunty. I was actually up and running my errands during my 2nd week of confinement. And I even went to rebond my hair. LOL. But rules are still rules.. I still followed some of them, eg, shower with herbs and had 1 week of Jamu massages to flatten my tummy. So are you the modern mummy or traditional?

Inexperieneced Me

That's right, I did not breastfeed Jon. I was not prepared by the efforts to be put in to breastfeed. So I am the inexperienced mummy when it comes to this area. I did not know that I have to wake up in the middle of the night to express the milk else I will have engorement in the morning. I was just complaining to my gfs and all of them laughed stating that is normal. I was like.. aw!!! I had high fever for the whole day and realised that I had mastities!! It is really not an easy task to breastfeed. To express or latch every 2-3hours is really no joke. Really need a lot of patience and efforts!! So I totally saluate all BF mummies for all the hardwork! Well Done Mummies... including myself. hahahaha.

The Big Day

We have schedule Annabelle to be delivered on 2 nov and my maternity leaves will start officially on 27 oct. So I can have a few days of rest before popping and spending more quality time with Jon. But who knows... on 20 Oct 2011, I realised I have some pink discharged. I called my gyn who asked me to come down at once. In fact I was still working on that day. Called Kenneth to pick me up and told him that today may be the D day. Hand over my work to my boss and bid her and my other colleagues farewell. We went home and had a quick shower and picked up my bag. Upon checking, Gyn informed us that I have actually dilated 2cm and informed us that he will perform the c-sec tonight instead. We were like ... wow so fast?! and Annabelle (Annie) will be born preterm at week 35 day 6. So a PD was requried to be at the Operating Theatre as well. We faster updates our families and friends and waited for 8pm to arrived. Compared to Jon, this round was really pain-free and more organised. During Jon's time, I had to be induced for almost 3 days as he was an overdue baby. The pain was beyond words as I have to suffer for 2 days before epidural was given. But after 3days, I was only dilated at 4cm and Jon was showing signs of destress. Hence was given emergency c-sec. So Annie's birth was really pain-free.

So below is her Birth story :
11am : pink discharged
2pm : 2 cm dilated
3pm : admitted to hospital ward
6pm : prepared for c-sec (shaved and shower)
7pm : pushed to OT
7.30pm : Epidural was administator
8.30pm : Allo to Annabelle
9.00pm : pushed to recovery ward
9.30pm : pushed back to normal ward

It is official - 2 more weeks to Delivery. During this time, my feet is super swollen, my tummy is always dancing with her movements. Sleeping is also a problem now. Been waking up every 2 hours to go toilet. And not forgetting my little Jon. He is getting closer to me each day. Wonder if he can sense that his sister is coming out soon. He used to prefer his dad but now, is the opposite. During my last checkup at week 35, she weighs almost 3.2kg and is consider on the big side. Jon weight was 3.4 - 3.5kg when delivered, guess she will also be around the same size as him. Guess genes runs in the family or I been eating super good foood. LOL

We decided to go to Universal Studio as part of Jon and Kenneth birthdays. And we were crossing our fingers and toes that the weather will be good as it was raining cats and dogs. Luckily that day weather was really good! We spent the whole day and even stayed to watch the Fireworks at Jon's request. So Universal Studio.. here we come!!

I am currently in my week 34 and left another 4 more weeks before I deliver. Yes, 4 more weeks! I have opted for C-sec as Jon was also delivered via C-sec. So much things to prepare and yet so little time. Baby stuff have been washed and packed. Delivery bag also has been packed and ready to grab and go. And also not forgetting the confinement herbs too.

Do you find this familiar? Yes, that's right. It is the super old school granite Pestle and Mortar. The beauty of this is that you will enjoy the manual pounding of the garlic, ginger, chilli, etc. Not really recommended if you are making big amount but for a small meal. I remembered that my mum has been using this since forever till she switched to blender. Then recently she use back again to make each dish. Somehow the manual way is nicer. And of cos under the influence of MasterChef, I told myself I would like to have 1 in the kitchen too. So ta-da... after 1/2 day of shopping in Robinsons, I spotted this gem. Cant wait to try it out.

2011 P1 Registration

Registration for 2012 Primary 1 registration just ended and results were also annouced. Some schools are really popular. It will be Jon's turn in 2 years time. Feeling super Kiasu I checked the MOE link (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies/ ) for the results. Bishan does not have a lot of schools and 2 of them are in the hot zone already. So really need to think if Parent Volunteering is worth the efforts. *Headache*

P/S - For parents who want to do PV, please make sure you have enough time as you need to register for it when your kid is in K1.

I only managed to breast feed Jon for 2 weeks during his time. I was too inexperienced and there were a few factors too. He was not able to latch on. When he was hungry, his cries can bring down the whole place and not forgetting that every breast pumping session would take 1hour and only expressed 20ml of milk which was super miserable. In the end, I gave up.

But I am more determined this round. I have bought Medela PIS to motivate me. And due to the cost of the pump, I must not give up so easily. LOL. And super thanks to my sister (who recently went to Bangkok) helped to buy me 10 packs of storage bags for breastmilk. I am fully prepared for being a cow. Hopefully this round will be more successful.

Even when we go to NTUC, he also likes to sit inside and see what we put into the trolley. But at SS, he can control the wheels. All pregnancy are different. Knowing that this will most likely going to be my last round, I decided to take note of all the little details.

Week 4 - Week 12 :

Plastic bags and toilet bowls are my best friends. Everywhere I went, I had to lookout for toilets. I have lost weight but I looked like I was in my last trim even I was only in the 1st trim. Brain storming for names started and we have decided on 2 names, 1 for boy and 1 for girl.

Week 14 :

Gynea had requested me to test for Gestational Diabetes due to my family history and my big size. It was never easy to do that test. Overnight fasting is required and that is not the hard part. The hardest was to drink the glucouse drink in 10mins. The drink was super sweet and gassy which make me want to vomit. I really had to "tahan" as any spill will have to redo the test again. I had to redo the test during Jon time as I puked in the lab. LOL. The experience was unforgettable.

Week 16 :
Delivery packaged booked. Yup, I am going to deliver in Mount Alvernia Hospital.

Week 17-18 :

Experts mention that mummies should be able to feel their baby movements eariler compared to their 1st preg. This is really very true. I am able to feel her movements around w17 compared to Jon w20. Puking has lessened but I still not taking much chances.

Week 18 :

Baby gender is finally known. Not sure why but I have encountered Braxton Hicks Contractions. So I must be super careful with all my activities now. So goodbye to shopping.

It has been months since I last blog. Yes... we are expecting a new member into our family.

As this is my 2nd pregnancy, I would rather say I am more relaxed. But all pregnancy are different. During Jon's time, I could not handle any pork related food during the first 16weeks. And this time round, I or rather the baby is very picky on the food. Most of the food is a no-no for me. Meaning I have become the plastic bag's best friend and the toilet bowl's best friend. And it is a no-no for all dairy products. I am now 18weeks but I am still puking. So whenever I puke, Jon will run far far away for me. So hopefully this will end soon.

There is always something to look forward in Dec, Christmas and brithdays. Most of the shopping malls will have some Disney shows or Cartoon Characters to attract crowds. Without fail, we are also attracted... er, I think Jon is the happiest. We decided to give the car a break and we took MRT via circle line to Millenia Walk to watch his fav character "Thomas & Friends".

After the 15mins show, we walked to Marina Square to catch the next show "Hi 5". Er.. he is not interested at all. After 5 mins, he asked for Thomas again.

Our first Christmas Tree

Ho Ho Ho, Christmas mood has hit home. We have finally gotten our first Christmas tree after searching a few places. The cheapest is still at The Verge, ex Concourse. With deco & tree, it is still cheaper at Tangs or Robinsons.

We were very excited to setup the tree once we reached home. Took us around 1 hour to setup. Pretty impressive by it. We all sat back and enjoy the view, even Jon was staring at the lighted tree for 10 seconds. So the tree is up, next will be the Christmas presents under the tree.

A trip to Supermarket

Whenever we go supermarket, Jon will normally just explore the place. But this round is different. After exploring the place, he went to pick a toy and walked to the trolley and put it inside. Just like how I picked my stuff. Seeing this really makes me wonder that Jon has indeed grow, no longer a baby.

Another visit to the Zoo again

Kenneth has managed to get the coporate family zoo pass and we are off to the Zoo again. Even though we have just visited the zoo, we were still pretty excited about the trip. Due to the morning rain, we went after lunch. It was not crowded and we really took our time in the park.

The moment we stepped into the zoo, Jon remembers that there are parrots in the zoo and keep saying "see parrots".

Finally the highlights of the day - Water Play. I have forgotten to bring a water resistent diaper and Jon refused to wear his pants. Hence I have no choice but to let him wear the normal diaper. The diaper was so heavy that it nearly burst. Let see if you can spot it.

Normally we will have 2 family celebrations on Jon's birthday. But this year, we are doing something different. We had planned for a bbq for the 2 families to join in. After some enquiries, we finally managed to book 2 bbq pits near our place. And we were looking forward to good weather and good food.

As many of you have knew that Kenneth & Jon's birthdays are actually 2 days apart, hence the birthday cake is always "Happy Birthday Jon & Dad". This will really help to save another cake money. And while ordering the cake, Jon insisted for Thomas cake again. And he picked the design. This cake is from Polar.

After being a loyal fan of Nokia for 13years, I finally give in to the Iphone temptations. Bought the Iphone4 from the online store. Buying it online store really has it perks. No need to wait endlessly at the mobile shop, just need to pick the time slot and wait comfortable at home for the delivery. Simply wonderful.

Why did I pick iphone4 despite the reception problem (yes, I encountered it personally but it was solved after I got a casing)? Cos there are alot of apps for children. In fact, Jon knows how to play a few games (Talking Tom, Angry Birds) on the 2nd day. See... kids are crazy over it too.

Thats right, your eyes are not wrong. LOL. So off we went... took a free shuttle bus from Bishan to Resort World. As this trip was a last minute plan, I had no time to charge my camera hence the only camera I had was my nokia phone.

I was not able to capture any pictures for the fireworks as the phone camera is not fast enough. We had a great time. Jon finally know what is fireworks but he is scared of those loud fireworks. He would turn his head away when those loud fireworks where shown. Good thing he din have any nightmare. By the way we reached home, it was around midnight.

Haircuts woes

Jon simply hates to have haircut done at the shop. He can even recognise the area near the shop. Whenever we walk to that area, he will simply make a HUGE fuss and refuse to go there. The moment we entered the shop, he seems to be like loudspeaker that is broken. Loud wails can be heard a few shops away. He has become the famous boy. He will only stop crying when we are out of the shop. So from now onwards, I will be the cutting the famous coconut hairstyle for him as he is ok when I do the cut.

This is the first time Jon is seeing his new cousins. We have been trying to teach him to be gentle to mei-mei (s). He was pretty excited to see them and at the same time he was jealous too. Meet the Teacher Session

We received a note from Jon's school that there will be a Meet the Teacher Session to discuss Jon's development.

Below are the comments from his teachers:

Jon is a very smart boy: During snack time, he would bring his bag instead of his snackbox and water bottle beside him. It will save more time to keep going back to take snackbox follow by water bottle. Smart move.
He is among the top to recognise Alphabet (A-Z) and numbers (1-10). Our efforts paid off. We spent alot of time teaching him that. hehehehe
His motor skills is on par with his age.
He is super lazy and stubborn: He refused to pick up anything that he dropped on the floor and will scream or yell for others to pick up for him. Sometimes he will refused to take off his own shoes. (Teachers will just ignore him whenever he does that).
Due to his lazyness, he also refused to talk. He will just scream to get his things done. He knows the word but just refuse to talk.
There is a girl classmate who simply adores him. She will sits beside him and help him do anything. LOL

So we need to help Jon improve his weakness during the June school hols.

It has been almost 1 year since Jon was exposed to Thomas the train. Suddenly he just went crazy over it. Everywhere he goes, he will carry his fav Thomas. There is around 10 Thomas train at home now. Even his fav Mickey has to give way to his new fav Thomas now.

Oldbird vs Noobs

I have been trying to gain my driving experience and I have noticed some behaviours on the road. Experienced drivers aka oldbirds tolerance level towards inexperience drivers aka noobs is almost zero. Whenever they see a P plate in front, they will try all means to overtake the car making the noobs super duper more kan-chiong. This makes me wonder on the sayings.. "What goes around, comes around" Meaning old-birds were also treated to the similar incidents when they were noobs. And once they graduate from the school of noob, they start to revenge. So if this is true, becareful of what you do cos what goes around now, comes around in the future.

Which ward will you pick if you are warded?

We all know medical bills are expensive. A day at Tan Tock Seng Hospital for B2 ward (maximum subsidy) costs $$54 to $61 while B1 ward costs $175. This does not include any tests conducted, Doc fees, medication fees. B2 is non-aircon while B1 is aircon with television attached.

Which will you pick? It is not an easy choice as both choices have their own goodness. Staying in B1 is surely more comfortable but the overall bill will be bigger compared to B2. I was given the option to select when Kenneth was warded. I am a person with a high level of comfort level so my basic instinct tell me to opt for B1. In the end, I picked B2 even tho we can claim from his Insurance.

The overall experience was quite pleasant beside the heat as we have gotten used to aircon and the staff nurses really took care of the patients needs. So which ward will you pick if given the choice?

Impt of driving

It has been almost 4years since I have gotten my driving license. But I can use my fingers to count the number of times I have droven around. Yes, that is how bad it is. I am so used to be the passenager and lost the confidence to be the driver.

But all these started to change after Kenneth was admitted to hospital due to lung infection. I realised the importance of driving. I started to practice my driving during weekends to gain my confidence back. I can use my toes to count the numbers of times I have drove now. LOL

Whenever we ran out of cash, we will always go to ATM to withdraw. Jon finds that ATM machine very interesting. He will search our wallets for the atm card, and try to withdraw the money. This happens all the time whenever he sees that ATM machine.

Melaka Chicken Rice Balls

When it comes to bed hunting, the best option is to test the bed by sleeping on it. Jon slept sweetly for 1hour+ on one of the bed at Ikea. In fact, he helped to promote the bed he was sleeping on it. One parents saw how comfy he slept and decided to get 1 for their boy. Err.. we are not the parents.

Herbs Shopping in Far East Flora

I been thinking to setup my mini herbs garden in front of the house. Finally we went to Far East Flora and begain my garden shopping. Jon was our inspector, checking all the flowers and plants. In e end, we selected 4 plants, re-potted them with the help of the gardeners.

Kenneth has managed to ballot Weekend Zoo passes from his company. A visit with the family to the Zoo is not cheap. Adult ticket is SGD$18 excluding tram ride. So we were pretty excited over the free passes. We told Jon that we are going to the zoo on sat if the weather is good. Good thing, sat's weather is sunny day. We packed our bags and caps and head down to Singapore ZOO!! Woohoo....

I really salute Jon as he walked from 12pm to 6pm and no complaints. And I was complaining about being hot and tired. This trip really showed that Jon has grown.
