Visit to KKH Accident n Emergency

Jon suddenly have fever. Despite of giving him the panadol, his fever remained high (38.9c). We rushed down to KKH A&E dept. It's not a very nice experience. We did not bring anything along. The nurse tried to feed him bifen but he vomited and soiled his top. Kenneth have to rush home again to pick up extra clothings and diapers and also his milk. Since Jon cant take oral medication, hence e nurse gave him 1 rectum bifen which finally brought down his fever. But his fever went up to 39c again at 2am. We rushed down to A&E once more. No medication is given cos bifen can only need given 6hrs apart (oral) or 12hrs apart (rectum). And we have gave him 1 dosage of pandol at 1am. Finally his temperature went down to 38c after continous sponging. We finally reached home at 5am exhausted.

  6. Return Urine bag to nurse for lab test
  7. Continue to wait for results
  8. Medical Officer attended to us again : test results is fine. rechecked his temperature and gave us some medication

What to do when your child is having fever :
  • Check temperature, give panadol
  • Recheck temperature after 45mins , if temperature still remains high (more than 38.5c), give bifen
  • Recheck temperature after 30mins, if temperature still remains high (more than 38.5c), sponge your kid for 30mins
  • Give another dosage of panadol (as it can be served 4-6hrs apart).
  • Repeat the steps till temperature breaks (e.g. panadol given at 12pm, if fever remains high at 1.30pm, bifen to be given at 2pm, if fever remains high at 3pm, sponge for 30mins and finally another dosage of panadol to be given at 4pm.)
